How To Whiten Teeth In Photoshop
In the previous Changing Eye Color tutorial, we learned how to change eye color using Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. Now, we will use the same type of layer to whiten teeth in an image in Photoshop (CS6 Later or CC). Checking out the previous post could help handling this one easier.
Step 1: Select Around The Teeth With The Lasso Tool
Select the Lasso Tool from the Tools panel (left of screen). Zoom in on teeth to draw a selection around them. You do not have to be precise.
Step 2: Add A Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer And Adjust The Options
You will see the option panel of the layer we added. There will be a panel below Preset. Default setting is Master, make it Yellows. This will allow us to reduce the saturation of the unwanted color yellow on teeth. Make saturation preferably between (-80)-( -50) until teeth seems naturally white. Then set the Yellows to Masters and change the Lightness between 0-20. It is also important here that the teeth seem natural.
Step 3: Clean Up The Edges With Brush Tool
After selecting brush tool, set its hardness between 0-50 and paint the edges of the teeth. You need to paint the teeth part with white and other parts (gum) black, so adjustment layer changes will only effect the teeth.
Step 4: Tune Brightness For Teeth At The Back
This may seem optional but it is important. Darker teeth at the back need less brightness. Thus, we set the brush opacity between 40-60 and paint over them with black. This way they seem more natural. It is hard to see the difference without zooming in.
