Make Someone Smile With Photoshop
In this post, you will learn how to make someone smile with lasso tool and and puppet warp. It is advised to use the Healing Brush to clean up any inconveniences . It is really easy and quick, all it takes is putting the pins in the right places while using puppet warp.
Step 1: Duplicate The Layer And Select Around The Mouth With Lasso Tool
Duplicate the original image by pressing Ctrl+J (Win) / Command+J (Mac) while it is selected. Go on to new layer and select the Lasso Tool from Tools bar. Zoom in on the lips and select around the lips with it. Make sure selection is a bit bigger than the lips.
Step 2: Select Refine Edge And Adjust The Sliders
Select Refine Edge from top of the screen. Lasso Tool should be selected.
In the opened panel, adjust the Radius, Smooth and Feather values such that edges are not sharp. In this example I used value 2 for every slider. Usually values will be below 10 for different resolutions.
Step 3: Select The Puppet Warp And Place The Pins
Select the Puppet Warp from Options bar at top of the screen.
Place the pins on the edges of the lips. First put pins at the left and right edge of the mouth, because you will drag them later. Other pins around the lips will decide which parts of the lips will extend when you drag one of the pins. Since any pinned part will not move when you drag any other pin, the pin count and placement will decide the structure of the image after you did all the dragging, in this case they will decide the look of the smile. You can play around pins to see which placement of the pins give the best result for you.
I placed one pin at the left and right edge of the mouth, one pin for middle of bottom and top of the mouth and one pin in the middle of them.
Step 4: Drag The Pins And Clean Up Bad Parts
Click on the leftmost pin and drag it slightly up and left, drag the rightmost pin up and right to catch the smile you want. If the smile looks ugly for any reason (bad refine edge adjustments, bad pin placement), hit Ctrl+Z (Win) / Command+Z (Mac) and readjust the previous factors.
After you are pleased with the smile, hit enter or the tick icon at the top of the screen to apply changes. Press Ctrl+D (Win) / Command+D (Mac) to deselect the selection that you made with the Lasso Tool to see the image clearly.
Since the layer in the background is not changed, some parts of it can be seen over the new layer. Especially the redness of the lips could be seen under the smile you created. Fix that parts with the Healing Brush. Select the Healing Brush from left of the screen. Press Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) + left click to sample good skin around the lips and clean up around the lips to complete the editing.
